The Pontotoc Conspiracy

A True Story of the Wild Old West

"Law enforcement in Indian Territory and in Oklahoma's early days makes a fascinating story and much of it is captured in The Pontotoc Conspiracy. It's a good read for those interested in the history going back to the Indians' Light Horse Police.”

-- Al Ritter, Editor, The Oklahoma State Troopers Magazine

In my estimation the Swatek book is more engaging and factual of early Ada than any other I have read. The author has a great deal of journalistic writing experience and utilizes a good deal of Oklahoma and Texas history in the story. He has a feeling for and an understanding of the milieu of the period of early Ada that comes from careful research of the role of Indians, railroads and business of that early period — both fascinating and I think accurate. If I had to recommend just one book on reading about Ada and Pontotoc County, it would be this book.

-- Dr. Stanley P. Wagner, President Emeritus of Ada's East Central State University
